The Winter Is Coming

Finally autumn is starting to make a move. The days are slightly less sweaty now and the nights are getting cooler. I already need a light blanket on top of the sheet in the bed. And some nights I need to even put my socks on. Oh bliss! I have waited for this impatiently, I can tell you!

I love it when it gets cool enough to start wearing my woollen socks.Another Finnish thing, I suppose.

The change of seasons is great though; it would bore me to death to wake up every day, saying: 'Och, another sunny day then!', lie on the sofa wearing shorts and a skinny top, wiping my sweaty brow with equally sweaty hands. Doing that already three to four months out of twelve is quite enough.

After that I want to dig out my socks, gloves, scarfs and hats and feel the winter inching in day by day. And I do like dressing in severals layers of warm clothing plus a blanket and a cat on my knee, no matter how much Mon Cheri is comparing me to a Michelin Man. As long as I'm comfortable, my ears are deaf to talk like that.

The ones I made earlier!

And another pair.

And this is a pair I made for my mother-in-law by crocheting. She handed me the leather insoles and asked me to make long socks for her. Always ready for a challenge, I searched the internet for crochet pattern but didn't find one I was happy with (or understood!), so this is a mixture of few of them and the rest is improvised. Sexy, no?
Not the tidiest of work, I know, but this was a first time I've crocheted anything like this so I was happy with the result.

Knitting has really been in fashion with me for a couple of years now and I've also taken up crocheting which I've never before been very interested in. Wonder why, it's great fun! And it's also quite fast way to produce something handmade, which is an excellent choice with my limited attention span.

Here's a bonnet I made last winter. I've made quite a few hats like this, could wear a different one every week of the winter by now, I'm sure.

Time to get the candles out  too as the nights are drawing in. Soon I'll be on the operating table again and not at home for couple of months. And the christmas will be soon upon us as well; the presents, the tree, the baked goodies, xmas cards...When will I do all that?

Maybe it's time to calm down, take a deep breath and look at some nice pictures.
