I got home just before christmas, so the festive break made sure that it was a soft landing into the routine. They wanted to keep me a bit longer but I was adamant - home for xmas, nothing else would do. Spending my xmas in that place was just a too depressing a thought - even if they serve champagne at xmas dinner!
One big (and necessary) present at xmas was a new phone, Nokia 7 Plus, maybe more of a computer than a phone. Three months later I am still trying to figure out all the functions it has. I wasn't born with my index finger on a tablet screen, so it takes just a wee bit longer for me to get to grips with the technology.
Practically the first thing was to find out how the camera works. I still don't know really, but I manage to take the normal photos, which is all I want, and to my delight, the quality is excellent.
And my darling Lili is also where she belongs - on my lap every night, giving the cuddles and an extra warming layer, which is much appreciated on cold winter nights. At summer time it's the opposite - she's not allowed to get on my lap because it is way too hot and she also likes to sharpen her nails on my thighs. Not very pleasant.
I enjoy being back on form again and so I have resumed my daily walks. I've installed an application on my phone which shows exactly where I am (very handy on these little country roads where it's easy to get lost) and how far I have walked. Excellent! I like that. Nothing like a new toy to give me extra motivation. And there is plenty to explore, this is a veritable walker's paradise.
My room mate at the recuperation centre very kindly lent us a plot of land to make our garden this summer. It is much closer to home this time, an easy walking or cycling distance, and that will make a difference. It also has some shady spots which will be very welcome when the summer heat hits us.
Things don't look too promising, do they? But that's part of the fun; the hard work you put into it, (never thought I would feel this way) to make it look completely different afterwards, gives a lot of satisfaction. We had to wait a bit for the water which will come from the nearby canal. The canal normally opens at 15th of March but nothing stopped us starting to work the ground and removing all the weeds. My favourite...
No, the planning bit is actually my favourite, unless we count reaping the harvest and eating all the vegetables you have lovingly grown all summer. Oh, the joy when I get my hands on the seed packets and start dreaming of what to plant and where! Unfortunately we have no space at home to start the seedlings, so it has to be the seeds-straight-into-the-ground- method when the weather is warm enough.
There were alredy two raised beds on the veggie plot. Although almost at the breaking point, I think they might yet survive one summer. I cleared them from the weeds and planted the first seeds there. Never mind if I have to carry the water from the nearby river for the first couple of weeks, I just can't wait to get growing something!
And this pot also got put to use, but everything I plant in it, seems to get eaten right away. Tonnere de Brest!
